Amaral, Afranio do.
A General Consideration of Snake Poisoning and Observations on Neotropical Pit-Vipers.
Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1925. First edition. Pp. (8), 1-62; + 15 full page plates, mostly halftones and line-drawings, one in color. Publisher's original maroon cloth, boldly lettered in gilt on the front cover, sm 4to (10 1/2 x 7 3/4 inches). In the series: Contributions from the Harvard Institute for Tropical Biology and Medicine, II. This volume is exceedingly scarce. In more than 28 years of book selling, this is only the second copy I have encountered. From the research library of Holbart M. Smith with his name stamp and initials on the front free endpaper. This volume shows evidence of water-damage - the cloth covers are a bit mottled with some loss of gilt to the title, which is none-the-less still readable, the text block is wavy with only marginal water marks to the top front section of the first text pages, six plates have the descriptive leaf stuck to the plate, so the actual plate is not visible, the descriptive leafs have been removed from the other plates which has damaged most of the remaining plates; given this water damage, this can be classified as a good-minus reading copy..
